Kanchan Bharadwaj - founder

Kanchan Bharadwaj dedicated her whole life to the education of these children whom she considered as her own . She had been observing a bunch of kids loitering around , some trying to earn their living by doing petty jobs being” rag pickers “. Obviously they were too poor to afford any kind of education . This was the year 1992 and she took a chair and a table and sat under the tree , ready to teach . The kids got curious and the school started with her , a tree for shade and 5 kids .

She really loved these kids and slowly over the years many more students became a part of her mission. In her journey a lot of people helped who continue to do so even today .

Till her demise she spent all her life trying to give education to the most impoverished section of our society.

The earliest memories of my childhood are that of my mother working passionately for her school . She would worry endlessly as the resources were always meager. I grew up being one of ‘her children ‘ as she fondly called them.

My mother had a dream and she lived her dream .She died in 2011 and since then I have continued her work.

I had no idea that the job would be so difficult. These children had a myriad of problems as they face abject poverty and other disadvantages. To give them a proactive educational environment is a daily struggle but the sheer happiness on the faces of these kids when they attend classes in a makeshift school makes it worth the effort.

The tin shed school now has 181 students and they are my life . I strive that each child coming here gets at least the basics - school books , note books , stationery, uniform , table and benches . I want to do everything in my capacity to make these underprivileged children not only literate but educated in the real sense. I want to give them tools so that they can contribute to the society and prove to be good human beings . This is my dream.
